An excellent expression, if someone gives you a present which you don't like, you can say it's the thought that counts.
Example:
- I look ridiculous, but it's the thought that counts. Thanks for your gift.
- It's a polite way of saying you appreciate the effort and the kind thought a person had when they bought you a present - but you don't like what they bought.
- Get your husband a birthday gift of anything, it's the thought that counts.
Diary:
Yesterday we had a party and we reviewed what we had done of the consult and we can do more in the future.
