Elon Musk - Day 9

熟读深思

“He always communicated the importance of being lean and of success, but it was never ‘if we fail, we’re done for.’ He was very optimistic.”

Elon从不掩饰自己对胜利和成功的渴望和追求,而且但凡是他认定的,没有失败的说法,有的就是各种方法实现,就是死磕到把事情做成自己想要的,而且要快,要好,要更高等级,从来不停歇。第六章是Rocket公司从无到有,从单枪匹马到几百高端人才的大公司,这里面作者是很客观地说明了Musk是如何一步步走出来的。而且整个这一段,很少出现Elon自己的语言,无论是在哪一个阶段,见到了什么人,遇到事情他怎么做出回应的,几乎所有的都是从雇员口中讲述。而我们很容易发现这些雇员在讲到自己和Elon的第一次见面,第一次听他构思rocket公司的与众不同,他们内心毫不掩饰的心动。就像是伯牙听到钟子期回答,“善哉,峨峨兮若泰山;善哉,洋洋兮若江河。”,终遇知音的不可抑制地内心颤动。这就是自己可以一展才华的地方。Elon无法控制自己对高标准的苛求和高人才的渴望,这里就显示了他的两面性。而相对在前两次创业中展示的缺点,这次倒显得温和一些,也许是他的优势太强势,在这次rocket发射中,没有他的鼓励和坚持,真的无法快速的完成。

Elon值得我们学习的地方太多。

字词学习

Baffle:

[释义] verb transitive: to cause someone to be completely unable to understand or explain something 使困惑,使迷惑

[原句] “The engineers were constantly baffled by what Musk would fund and what he wouldn’t.”

[例句] She was completely baffled by his strange behavior.

[造句]The executive's complex personality baffles his employees, which makes the executive unreliable sometimes.


Abort

[释义] (often passive) to end or cause something to end before it has been completed, especially because it is likely to fail (使)夭折,中止(可能失败的事情)

[原句]“With that mission aborted, SpaceX ordered major LOX reinforcements from Hawaii and prepared for another attempt in mid-December.”

[例句] We had no option but to abort the mission.

[造句] Although we have made a detailed and complete plans to ensure its success, we have no choice but to abort it because of the lack of money.


Take your lumps

[释义] (NAmE informal) to accept bad things that happen to you without complaining 毫无怨言地忍受

[原句]“It is perhaps worth noting that those launch companies that succeeded also took their lumps along the way”

[造句] While their kid shouted his parents to go away, they can only take their lumps because they have abandoned their kid firstly.



pricey 相当于expensive, 今天刚好看到剑桥英语高级词语里面提到了price这个词根衍生的词语:

underpriced: something that it underpriced is sold at a price that is too low and less than its real value.

overpriced: something that is overpriced is more expensive than it should be.

price tag:价格标签

priceless: 贵重的,无价的 = valuable
