A balanced view of an issue is one that reflects all the subtlety and complexity of the issue.

• The dominant view exerts considerable force on most peopls's thinking, particularly when the issue is controversial and emotion is running high.

• Without realizing it, people typically adopt fashionable perspectives and use fashionable arguments and even fashionable words.
