...one of them became the best-loved poem describing the essence of this mountain.
essence此处表示the most important quality or feature of something that makes it what it is
in essence本质上
2 a liquid taken from a plant, etc., that contains its smell and taste in a very strong form香精,精油,此处相当于extract
of the essence: necessary and very important
造句:No one can depict human nature so vividly as Shakespeare.
Starvation is at my door.
Job-seeking/running out of money is at my door.
...he had his heart in his mouth.
somebody's heart is in their mouth: somebody feels nervous or frightened about something提心吊胆,心提到了嗓子眼儿
set/have your heart on something: to want something very much
take something to heart对某时感到烦恼、耿耿于怀
cross my heart(and hope to die)我发誓(否则不得好死)
eat your heart out: used to compare two things and say that one of them is better(比较两事物)比…还好
wear your heart on your sleeve感情外露、把心事挂在脸上
造句:Every time my brother saw mouse he had his heart in his mouth.
