【道德经】英译 第七章

天 长 地 久 。
Heaven is long-enduring and earth is everlasting.
天 地 所 以 能 长 且 久 者 ，
The reason why heaven and earth are able to endure such long is that they do not live for themselves.
以 其 不 自 生 ， 故 能 长 生 。
That is how they are able to endure and last long.
是 以 圣 人 后 其 身 而 身 先 ﹔ 外 其 身 而 身 存 。
Therefore, the sage puts himself last, and yet finds himself in the foremost place. He regards his body as if it does not belong to himself, and yet his body is preserved.
非 以 其 无 私 邪 。故 能 成 其 私 。
Is it not because he does not live for himself that therefore his self is realized?
