圈圈学翻译|旅游英语
尽管最近又有好多东西想写要写,但是……没错我又偷懒了……--
所以,先整理一下没那么复杂的东西。
最近开始做某个旅游英语项目,整理出来翻译过程中遇到的一些不太熟悉的单词、短语和俚语。其实这个想法来自法语同传哥钟老师,他公众号经常发布在做口译期间积累的一些内容,很有意思。所以效仿了。
释义主要来自剑桥汉英、谷歌和维基。强烈推荐剑桥英汉,例句真是太实用了

backlot这个词,居然没有收录到剑桥。但其实结合“back"、"lot"和”film“基本上就知道什么意思了。

根据纽约历史学会(New-York Historical Society)资料显示,纽约被称为大苹果应追溯至1921年《纽约晨递报》(The New York Morning Telegraph)的一位作者约翰·J·费兹·葛瑞德(John J. Fitz Gerald)。约翰在报上主要是撰写赛马专栏的,他在赛马场跟来自于纽奥良的黑人马伕聊天时,得知他们对于有机会来到纽约兴奋不已,在他们眼中,纽约是个遍地黄金且充满机会的地方时,就以「大苹果(Big Apple)」做为形容,意思是既好看又好吃,人人都想咬上一口。(原文为:The Big Apple. The dream of every lad that ever threw a leg over a thoroughbred and the goal of all horsemen. There's only one Big Apple. That's New York.)
A big finish
这个我查了半天谷歌也没查到。觉得俚俗语的话,也许urban dictionary会有,结果一查惊呆了,肯定不是那个意思……
琢磨了半天,在谷歌上找了纽约帝国大厦的照片,觉得应该指的是最上面的那个尖顶?避雷针?
最后注意到“atop”,觉得是理解出了偏差,猜测a big finish是指大厦顶上俯瞰的风光。
所以最后译文定为:欣赏纽约中部林立的地标建筑,最后登顶帝国大厦,纵享无限风光。
然而,没有查到“a big finsih”确切意思,我觉得还是有点不放心。
