王步(1898-1968)，字仁元，号长湖、竹溪道人，晚年又号陶青老人，斋名愿闻吾过之斋。祖籍江西丰城，生于景德镇，自幼学绘青花，喜画极为工细的鸟食罐、小文房等。1919年应聘入瓷业美术社担任仿古瓷的制作，朝夕临摹明、清官窑名品，深得古瓷画意构图之精髓。继之同景德镇陶瓷实业名家吴霭生合作，研制青花仿古，大有心得，1926年吴氏病逝，王步始启自身创作之端，采用水墨画的若干技法绘制青花，制作出雅致清新的作品，一洗晚清瓷画的繁琐陋习，为当时的陶瓷艺术界开启了一种崭新的风气。其技艺精湛独到青花绘画技巧被后世尊称为“青花大王”。
