**6.61 Use of [the colon](https://www.zhihu.com/search?q=the+colon&search_source=Entity&hybrid_search_source=Entity&hybrid_search_extra=%7B%22sourceType%22%3A%22answer%22%2C%22sourceId%22%3A1674164891%7D). 391\.
* The watch came with a choice of three bands: stainless steel, plastic, or leather.
* They even relied on a chronological analogy: just as the Year II had overshadowed 1789, so the October Revolution had eclipsed that of February.
* Yolanda faced a conundrum: She could finish the soup, pretending not to care that what she had thought until a moment ago was a vegetable broth was in fact made from chicken. She could feign satiety and thank the host for a good meal. Or she could use this opportunity to assert her preference for a vegan diet.
**6.65 Colons to introduce quotations or questions. 392–393\.
* Michael: The incident has already been reported.
* Timothy: Then, sir, all is lost!
* The author begins by challenging nature itself: “The [trees](https://www.zhihu.com/search?q=trees&search_source=Entity&hybrid_search_source=Entity&hybrid_search_extra=%7B%22sourceType%22%3A%22answer%22%2C%22sourceId%22%3A1674164891%7D) were tall, but I was taller.”
* The question occurred to her at once: What if I can’t do this?
- I have three desires: to eat, sleep, and work.
- This is her plan: go shopping.
- For our camping trip, I brought various essential items: a lantern, a sleeping bag, food, water, and a flashlight.
- Africa is facing a terrifying problem: perpetual drought
- The watch came with a choice of three bands: stainless steel, plastic, or leather.
