A milestone in a rebellious girl's life
1983年，
那个整天像条虫一样捣乱的我，
被送进了小学。
忙着赚钱补贴家用的母亲，
到学校缴了8元学费。
In the year of 1983
With a tuition of 8 yuan paid by
my hardworking Mom,a bread owner
I was finally sent to school
Like a mess-making insect finally taken away
上学第一天便干了件臭事，
把同桌名字依样画葫芦抄到自己本子上。
没上过幼儿园，不会写名字啊！
On the first day of school
I did a dumb thing by copying the name of the
classmate sitting next to me on my own notebook
How could you expect a girl who had
never been to kindergarten
to know how to write, even a name of her own
很快我的成绩便遥遥领先了。
However,it was not long before
that I became a top student
学校附近的矮墙上爬着葡萄藤。
夏日的一天中午，
我纠集了几个女生去偷葡萄。
The low walls near school were covered
by vines with grapes
I talked several girls into sneaking there
and picked grapes with me
And that was on a summer afternoon.
等我们小心翼翼摘好，
头顶上传来雷一样的声音，
“小鬼们，我要去学校告诉你们老师。”
As we were putting grapes away
There came a shout from above
“Hey, kiddos, I swear I am gonna
report it to teachers.”
天哪，告诉老师这种勾当，
那我岂不是三好学生没得当了，
得先发制人，先去向老师承认错误。
That’s too bad,
if teachers found out what I did
My merits of being a best student would be gone
I decided to turn myself in before
being reported by a third party
老师说，勇于承认错误是好孩子。
然而我这个好孩子，
因为小事与同桌男生打起来。
好事者去通知我那上三年级的哥哥，
他来了便静静站在窗外看热闹。
他私下告诉我，这种小事，要自己解决。
And here’s what teacher said:
A kid who had the courage to confess
would always be a good one
While a good kid like me again found myself
in trouble by having a fight with the boy
sitting next to me
An informer told my brother who was a third grader
He showed up by doing nothing
except standing by the window,watching
Later he told me to handle things like these
by myself as they’re not big deals
语文老师很喜欢我，我也很喜欢她，
她是我人生中见到的
第一个美好又潮流的女子。
有一天她问我能否帮她去家里拿一本书，
欣然跑去，在那里，我完全惊呆了。
My Chinese teacher was a lady of
beauty and fashion
She’s the first one showing me
how charming a lady could be
And what’s more, she liked me,
and I was in favor of her
And then there’s a day when she sent me
to her home to find a book for her
I took the mission gladly and there
I found myself totally shocked
家里只有半本新华字典的孩子，
被父母定位成修补渔具女工的我，
忽然置身于一个“海的艺术家”的屋子里，
满墙的大海、石屋、渔家风情的版画，
就像充满生命的手，
一下子抓住了我的灵魂。
至今想起，凝结心中仍是不断的惊喜。
如果说我后来学会坚定热爱，明确方向，
学会一种心灵富有的生存，
那一刻就是指引，
在往后的岁月里，我只是不断的去靠近它。
There I was,a girl who had only half
Chinese dictionary at home,
a girl who was thought to be a fishing
net weaver after growing up
There, I found myself in a home owned
by an“Artist of the Sea”
On the walls were prints about the sea,
stone houses and life of fishing
My soul was like being grabbed
suddenly by a hand of life,
which kept filling me with continuous surprises
It’s that moment that guided me to
determine my love,to set my direction,
to live with a nourished heart .
And as time went on and on,
I found myself getting closer and
closer to what it meant.
