pursuing scientific knowledge is human nature. Is it important for the practical use of the knowledge or the sake of the knowledge itself?
With the development of the society, more and more citizens focus on absorbing scientific knowledge. Some argue that knowledge is only invaluable when it is put into practical usage, while others content that human beings pursue knowledge for the sake of itself. Personally, I believe that knowledge itself is on a par with using it in a practical way.
On the one hand, knowledge itself is invaluable, so learning it would have a profound impact on cultivating the interests of human beings. For example, when students enter into the college, they would first learn liberal arts in the first two years to explore what they are passionate about, such as arts, music and literature. In this way, they would be able to learn how to appreciate drama and music, such as Romeo and Juliet and classical music.
On the other hand, putting knowledge into practical use has a profound implication for the advancement of the society. For instance, learning chemistry enables a researcher to develop anti-viral drugs, while learning medicine empowers scientists to come up with new theories to explain what has puzzled the world for centuries. For example, scientists who have won the medicine Nobel Prize unravelled the secrets of body clock.
Therefore, developing new products or theories based on learned knowledge to solve issues also has a vast implications on human beings as a whole.
In conclusion, it would be fair for humans to place emphasis on the pursuit of knowledge itself, as well as the practical use of knowledge for both these two purposes serve well for the progress of the whole society.
