The gift of magi

One dollar and eighty-seven cents .That was all.And sixty cents of it was in pennies.Pennies saved one and two by bulldozing the grocer and the vegetable man and the butcher until one`s cheeks burned with the silent imputation of parsimony that such close dealing implied.Three times Della counted it . One dollar and eighty-seven cents .And the next day would be Christmas.

There was clearly nothing left to do but flop down on the shabby little couch and  howl.So Della did it .Which instigates the moral reflection that life is made up of sobs ,sniffles ,and smiles,with sniffles predominating.

魔笛的礼物

一元八角七分，这就是全部。其中那些值六十美分的便士，是同杂货店老板、卖蔬菜的及屠夫在一次次争得面红耳赤的交易中，一分二分这样积攒起来的。黛拉数了三次，仅有一元八角七分，而明天就是圣诞节了。

黛拉什么也做不了，她只能趴在那张破旧的沙发上大声哭泣，她沉浸在悲伤中，她反思自己的生活，她认为生活一定是哭泣，抽泣，微笑构成的，而抽泣几乎成了生活的全部。
