Nowadays, children are confronted with multiple matters affecting their own development Given that making decisions by themselves have both advantages and disadvantages, it can be a key problem for parents whether to offer this opportunity to their children to choosing by themselves.

People who have a negative attitude towards children’s independence on decision hold the argument that making choices by themselves may foster children’s selfishness. Firstly, children are lack of experience to make right choices which may lay immerse influence on themselves and people around them. People at young age are more likely to be affected by the environment, resulting in impulse on decision that they may regret. Besides, there are numerous situations that require children to behave politely and dress suitably.

Advocates argue that allowing children to making decision by themselves can be beneficial to children. Firstly, children should be regarded as individuals who have their own thoughts. So it is wise to leave matters about themselves to be solved by children themselves. Secondly, children’s abilities can be greatly enhanced during their processing of thinking and analyzing. In order to make choices, children are more likely to gather knowledge and information on a certain matter. So their abilities of critical thinking, absorbing knowledge and solving problems are fostered. More importantly, all these abilities are needed in their further life and study. People cannot only draw much attention on children’s everyday life, but on their further development.

To my point of view, children should be allowed to make decisions by themselves even their choices are not good in adults’ view. Although children are not so mature to make every decision, they can learn from the mistakes they have made, which are of great importance to their growing. Besides, their enhanced abilities can be considered as significant traits in their further development.
