1.conceive

I think my uncle still conceives of me as a four-year-old.  我觉得我叔叔仍然把我看成是四岁的小孩。

He couldn't conceive of a time when he would have no job.  他不能想像有一天他会没有工作。

The exhibition was conceived by the museum's director.  这次展览是由博物馆馆长构思设计的。

He conceived the plot for this film while he was still a student.  他还是个学生的时候就已经构想出了这部影片的情节。

The baby was conceived in March, so will be born in December.  这孩子是3月份怀上的，所以会在12月出生。

2.measure up

I'd better measure up before I start laying the carpet.  铺地毯之前我最好量一量。

She could never measure up to her mother's expectations.  她可能永远都无法满足她母亲的期望。UK verb

It was fatiguing sometimes to try to measure up to her standard of perfection...有时候，力求达到她尽善尽美的标准让人觉得很累。

She's always comparing me to other people, and somehow I never measure up.她总是拿我跟别人相比，不知怎的，我总是不如人家。

3.to be +... age 的结构中，age 前面可以加上一个物主代词或者thesame，但是再前面就不加任何介词（如at, of 之类）。

When I was your age, I used to work six days a week. （不说at your age）我在你现在这个年龄的时候，通常每周工作六天。

The two boys are the same age. （不说of the same age）那两个男孩年龄相同。

She's the same age as her husband. （不说of the same age as）她同她丈夫同年。如果age 前面不是物主代词或the same 而是一个表示类别的形容词，再前面就要加上of。

These children are of school age. 这些是学龄儿童。

They are not of legal age. 他们不够法定年龄。此外，to be of age 是“已经成年”的状态，to come of age 是“到达成年年龄”的变化。

4.alike

His latest play has delighted theatre audiences and theatre critics alike.  观众和戏剧评论家都很喜欢他最新的剧作。

Friends and family alike were devastated by the news of her death.  听到她去世的噩耗，无论家人还是朋友都悲痛欲绝。

After the trial he was shunned by friends and family alike.  审判后，朋友和家人都躲着他。

The police, raining blows on rioters and spectators alike, cleared the park...警察不分闹事者与观众统统一顿猛击，把人们清除出了足球场。

The wine goes with strong and mild cheese alike.喝这酒的时候可以搭配浓乳酪或淡乳酪。strongly
