Good afternoon everyone welcome to Endison's class. Today we are going to...... ( The teacher fell down to the ground in the classroom. Everyone present were very surprised.) Sorry ,it's a really a bad luck. I think I can continue to give the glass.Yeah ,I should be more careful. If I really got badly hurt ,what shoukld I do?Where? Hospital! You know, going to hospital needs a lot of money. Who are going pay me? Are you going to pay me? Yes ,oh my god you're going to pay me. Or all the teachers are going to pay me. Yes? Oh my god you think of the teachers can pay me.
Actually I have an idea about this accident. If I really got badly hurt or I lost my legs ,it's a good opportunity for me to get a lot of money. Do you think so.? And how? Ask who? You can use the microphone.
Student: If you fell down you can ask all the teachers for money.
Actually I cannot ask the teacher for money , Because they are innocent. I have an idea. I can sue the stadium. what does the word sue mean? Okay i'm going to tell you. Please follow me. Sue, sue To sue means I find a lawyer and bring the manager of the stadium to an court ,and ask the manager for a lot of money. A special word for this is compensation. Okay read after me ,compensation. And another word for this is payout. So the two words compensation and payout mean..... And I will ask for the stadium for a lot of.... Yes, money.
Ok do you think I should sue the stadium? Yes ?why? Thank you for your support. But why yes? because I.... There is something wrong with the stadium. How about the teachers? Do you think I should sue the stadium. Ok someone say yes, someone say no.
Whatever you think whatever we think, I have to make a choice. And about choice ,there is a famous sentence by shakespeare. Do you know that, a choice? To be or not to be? that's a question. And now I want to change the sentence a lit into this: to sue or not to sue? That is exactly what we are going to read today.
But at first, you're not going to read the whole passage. Instead, work in group and each group member just need read one stories, one sue story, from the whole passage. Was it clear? Read the passage. One minute ,let's go.
All right ,time is up. I think you have really done a good job. Because you're sharing. Now let's check ,whether you know the four stories. Let's check the story chart. I'm going to ask two groups to answer the question. Okay any group ,any volunteers? This group please.
Okay now we have known the four stories. Let me ask you a question ,how do you feel after reading the stories. How do you feel? Which word? Oh my god ridiculous! Okay please. It's unbelievable. What else? It's a good word. It's funny. You mean you want to laugh after reading the story. One more ,okay please. You mean it makes you nervous because when you travel to another country you may meet with these problems. Ridiculous unbelievable ,funny nervous. These are what we think of right? Question is what about the writer? What does the writer think of the three cases? Or what's the writer's opinion? Okay I see this is a difficult question. Just now we have read the story ,we only focus on the facts that is about the detailed information right? Actually I want to tell you that if we can find some clues or sentences ,we can find out what the writer think of the stories. I'm going to give you an example. I'm going to tell you a story, a story of what's happening here and now. We go home and a student may write this.
Okay have you finished? What's students's opinion about this class?
Boring ,does the student like the class? No. You know the students opinion about class. But how do you find his opinion. What kind of clue words or sentences have you found? You can use the microphone if you want to say. Just stand up and speak. Even in the story we can find some something that is the clue words and sentences to help us understand the write's opinion. Now let's come back to our passage to sue or not to sue. What we are going to do next is that you're going to read the whole passage that is already on your desk. And then try to find the writer's opinion by looking at the evidence that is clue words or sentences. Turn to your group members read the passage and then discuss. All right ,let's start. Read first and then discuss.
Have you finished your own reading? Okay turn to your group members to discuss ,and talk about what you have found.
All right ,let's stop here ,let's see what you have found. Let's look at the word we have found. These words are the writer's opinion. If you look at the title again, that is a choice and that is a question, what's the author's answer to this question. The writer think people shouldn't have sue. It seems that everything is clear, the writer writes some stories and tries to say that in these unreasonable suing cases, people actually shouldn't have sued.
Ok here comes the last question ,as readers ,do we totally agree with the writer? Let's change one word should we agree with the writer. What should we do before we decide?
