新概念英语第二册 Lesson 49: The end of a dream
Tired of sleeping on the floor, a young man in Teheran saved up for years to buy a real bed. For the first time in his life, he became the proud owner of a bed which had springs and a mattress. Because the weather was very hot, he carried the bed on to the roof of his house. He slept very well for the first two nights, but on the third night, a storm blew up. A gust of wind swept the bed off the roof and sent it crashing into the courtyard below. The young man did not wake up until the bed had struck the ground. Although the bed was smashed to pieces, the man was miraculously unhurt. When he woke up, he was still on the mattress. Glancing at the bits of wood and metal that lay around him, the man sadly picked up the mattress and carried it into his house. After he had put it on the floor, he promptly went to sleep again.

- Teheran, 德黑兰（波斯语：تهران、Tehrān）是伊朗的首都，同时也是德黑兰省省会，总人口达8,429,807人，是伊朗最大的城市，也是西亚地区最大的城市之一。
- save up为固定短语，表示“储蓄”、“攒钱”
- to在这里用于表示目的，相当于in order to
- gust表示“一阵强风”、“一阵狂风”，既可以单独使用，也可以用a gust of wind形式

这篇文章不难，但是用到了一些介词，比如in his life，carry his bed on to the roof，sweep off，sent it crashing into the courtyard，be smashed to pieces，carry it into his house，
这里有个插曲，Teheran表示德黑兰，伊朗首都，我读到这个词的时候没有反应过来中文是德黑兰的意思，因为我记得一部电影叫做Argo，是本阿弗莱克自导自演的很有名的一个获奖电影，argo跟这个Teheran没有什么联系，而我对德黑兰的唯一影响就是这个电影了，所以没有联系起来。于是顺便就查了argo，为什么电影英文名字叫argo，中文名字叫做逃离德黑兰？首先说下argo这个电影的背景情况：“美国驻伊朗使馆被激进民众包围，有6个工作人员逃到加拿大驻伊朗使馆躲避，不能出境，美国CIA采取了一个ARGO的计划，这个计划就是设计一部名叫《ARGO》的科幻电影，这6位工作人员在这个电影中分别担任不同的岗位，并为他们制作了6份加拿大的护照，谎称他们是加拿大人，是去伊朗采风的，然后成功将困在伊朗的6位工作人员带回美国。ARGO并无特殊含义，只是这部虚拟电影中一只宇宙飞船的称号，翻译为《逃离德黑兰》是因为他们的使馆地址在伊朗德黑兰，仅此而已。”
所以其实只是凑巧叫了argo，我接着搜索还发现了另一个可能更为符合情况的解释：阿尔戈号,(Argo)希腊神话中的一条船，由伊阿宋等希腊英雄在雅典娜帮助下建成。它可以容纳五十名桨手，并取造船者的名字而命名为“阿尔戈”号，意即“轻快的船”。众英雄乘此船取得金羊毛。此后该船作为进献雅典娜的祭品被焚毁。南船座由此而来。参考链接：阿尔戈英雄。
