漂流世界 | 冰岛——冰与火之歌

金庸在《倚天屠龙记》中描写过一个无名荒岛，它位于冰川之上，又有着未喷发的火山，故名冰火岛。而今天我们介绍的地方与之类似，它气候寒冷，八分之一的地区被冰川覆盖，但又火山群布，是世界上温泉最多的国家，这奇妙的差异使它被称为冰火之国，它就是——冰岛 Iceland。

Iceland is a Nordic island country in the North Atlantic Ocean. It has a population of 332,529 and an area of 103,000 square kilometres, making it the most sparsely populated country in Europe. Iceland is volcanically and geologically active. The interior consists of a plateau characterised by sand and lava fields, mountains and glaciers, while many glacial rivers flow to the sea through the lowlands.

Vatnajökull National Park, established in 2008, encompasses not only all of Vatnajökull glacier but also extensive surrounding areas. The southernmost part of the glacier envelops Iceland's highest peak, Hvannadalshnúkur.

Gullfoss is called the "Golden Falls", since on a sunlit day, the mist clouds surrounding the hammering falls are filled with dozens of rainbows, the water truly looks golden, providing an unparalleled spectacle of color and motion.

居德瀑布被称作黄金瀑布，是因为在阳光灿烂的日子里，垂落的瀑布云雾缭绕，一道道彩虹映射其中，瀑布的水看起来就像金色的，色泽动态瑰丽无比。

An aurorais a natural light display in the sky, predominantly seen in the high latitude (Arctic and Antarctic) regions. The aurora borealis is often visible at night time during the winter in Iceland.

Actually the Northern lights are active all year long but we can only see them in darkness, when the skies are clear. In summertime Iceland is bright almost all the time, so that is the period when we can not see the Northern lights.

其实北极光全年都有，但只有当天空明净的时候，我们才能在黑暗中看到它们。在夏季，冰岛几乎总是明亮的，所以这段时期我们看不到北极光。

The most important ingredient in Icelandic cuisine is location. Iceland is blessed with an abundance of fresh water, clean nature and fertile fishing grounds, while geothermal energy makes it possible to supply a year-round offering of fresh vegetables, grown locally in organic greenhouses.

A staple of Icelandic cuisine is fresh caught fish. Some of the richest fishing grounds in the North Atlantic can be found off the coast of Iceland, where cool and warm ocean currents meet to create the ideal conditions for fish stocks to thrive.
