1.Words: where, excuse, train, bus, subway, ride, bike, car, boat.
2. Phrases: turn left, turn right, at the first crossing, go across, by bus
3. Sentence Patterns: (Where is + someplace? ls there +someplace near there?Which is the way to + the place?How can l get to + the place?Can you tell me the way to + the place.Can you tell me how to get to + someplace?)(Walk along/up/down the road.Turn left/right at the first turning.lt's about fifteen minutes' walk from here.Take the NO.1 bus on the left and get off.)

Step 1 Revision and Lead-in
Ask some questions:
1. Did you come to someplece new?
2. What would you do if you lost you way?
3. How to help the new comer to find the way?
4. Do you know how to ask for and give directions?
Step2 presentation for reading
Ask a question:
Where does the man go?
Step 3 Fast reading
1. Give 2 minutes to read the conversation quickly.
2. Answer my question:Where does the man go?
3. Repeat the right answer and write them on the blackboard.
Step 4 Careful reading
1. Explain some main phrases and sentence patterns.
2. Give 4 minutes to read the conversation carefully and do the exercises by individual.
3. Check the answer.
Step 5 Practice
1. Summarize the ways to ask for and give directions.
2. Draw a picture on the blackboard. Then let the students make conversation.
3. Make a competition: Invite a student to ask the way, and teacher answers.
Step 6 Consolidation and summary
1. Emphasis the phrases and sentence patterns.
2. Retell some useful experiences to improve English ability.
Homework
Write down a conversation about how to ask for and give directions well, and play the roles with your friends.
