This is a speech given by Shonda Rhimes, an American writer who calls herself a titan, a real titan. She once worked 15 hours a day, made up stories for 3 or 4 episodes at a time. She put most of her energy into her work. She did obtain great success. But one day she found herself loath to her job. She couldn’t produce any creative ideas. She was completely dull at her work.
One of her worksWanna play? Her little daughter saved her from the dullness at work. She finally recovered from playing with her kids for 15 minutes, a quality time free from cell phones, laundry, reading etc.
She thinks work doesn’t work without play. The more play, the more work. Love makes one relaxed from exhaustion caused by work or other things. That a shift from one thing to another gives our brain a break, helps us readjust our brain and way of thinking. Thus, more aha moments will occur to us.
Yes, this powerful word drives us out of comfort zone. It helps us undid the fear, try something new that we never thought we would do, like writing online spreading our ideas among millions of strangers or starting workout at the gym in front of people, young or old, fat or fit, short or tall.
More saying yes will enhance our faith on what we are handling. We’ll have more guts to continue what we do and discover the inner world bigger and bigger in us. When we feel tired, or short of ideas, cease and rest for a moment, play with friends or family members for a while. Aha! After refreshing our mind, we feel brand new in this world, like a reborn bamboo full of vitality.
This idea applies to anyone who’s in the middle of struggling, a teacher, a student or a white-collar or even a leader etc.
