In the modern world, it is no longer necessary to use animals for foods or use animal products, for instance, clothing and medicine. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

At the present day, a viewpoint has been put forward that there is no need to utilize animals for foods or animal products like clothing and medicine. From my perspective, I totally disapprove of the above standpoint.

To begin with, it is a well-known fact that livestock animals such as cattle, sheep, goats, horses, chickens, turkeys, pigs and so on have been kept for obtaining meat, milk, labor, eggs, clothing and even medicine since the beginning of human civilization. There’s no denying that meat, including poultry, beef, pork and fish, supply numerous nutrients for individuals. Although people’s tastes and preferences vary tremendously throughout the world, most of them would agree that the best tasting foods involve a variety of meat products.

Apart from meat products, since those who consume dairy products have healthier bones and teeth, it is recommended that people eat three servings of dairy products every day. It is especially beneficial for young children to drink milk regularly because their bones are still developing. Furthermore, animal products are found in a vast amount of foods consumed today and animal by-products are also used extensively in almost all walks of life. For example, other than lamb and mutton, wool is one of the most commonly known products from sheep. After processing, wool can be made into lots of different items: shirts, socks, gloves, yarn for knitting and tennis ball covers, just to name a few.

Generally speaking, the domesticated animals have been raised for the benefits of humans. In order to determine the safety of the medical products, animals are sometimes used in the testing of drugs, vaccines, biologics, and medical devices because non-animal testing is not yet a scientifically valid and available option. Actually, many medications for high cholesterol, high blood pressure, asthma, and diabetes could not have been developed without the assistance of animal research.

All in all, it is still essential to make use of animals for foods, animals products, clothes and various medical studies in today’s world.
