句号 Period

句号表示一个句子的结束。

Hockey is a popular sport in Canada.
The federal government is based in Ottawa.
注意： 如果在一个句子后面使用省略号，后面还得加句号，即句末有四个点。

误： I am one of these people, who believe that gardening is good for the soul, when I was little, my grandfather had a large vegetable garden.
正： I am one of these people who believe that gardening is good for the soul. When I was little, my grandfather had a large vegetable garden.
解析： who引导的定语从句在意思上是不可或缺的，是限定性定语从句，不能在who前面加逗号。另外，“ I am one of these people who...” 已经是一个完整的句子，所以当出现when从句时，应该另外开始一个句子。

考试难点：句号和问号

旬号和问号都属于句末标点

1. 句号用于陈述句的末尾，要求该句必须是独立句。如：
   You should talk it over with him.
   His family would allow him to resume a public life.
2. 问号用于直接疑问句的末尾，提出一个问题。如：
   Did you ever talk it over with him?
   Why would his family allow him to resume a public life?

如果出现一个疑似问题的陈述句呢？

误：I wonder why his family would allow him to resume a public life?
正：I wonder why his family would allow him to resume a public life.
解析：本句是个间接疑问旬，而不是直接疑问旬。 would在两种悄况下的位置不同。 why引导直接疑问句时，是 why would his family allow ... ; 而当 why引导间接疑问句时，是 why his family would allow ... 与直接疑问句不同，间接疑问句以句号结尾。
