Today a special guest came to our classroom. She is my friend's mom. She brought us some dates and talked about Ramadan.
Ramadan is a special month for Muslims.I learned that over 1.8 billion Muslims in the world celebrate Ramadan.
During Ramadan Muslims fast food and drink, they can not eat or drink when it's daytime from sunrise to sunset. They can only eat and drink when the sun has not come up yet. Before 9 pm in the night they can't eat or drink either. But for kids, seniors and sick people don't need to fast. Sometimes kids fast but usually they don't.
When they fast, they do things such as taking a nap, going out for a walk, or reading a book. There are other things they do too.
Ramadan is to remind them to be charitable, be giving and be sharing.
Dates are a big part of Ramadan, it's a Islamic tradition. Dates are dried fruit, they are delicious.
My friend's mom eats two dates, a bowl of cereal, and a few cups of water for breakfast when she wake up at 3:30am.
