When I was asked by the hostess to sit next to Mrs. Rumbold at a dinner party last
week, Mrs. Rmubold, a large unsmiling lady in a tight black dress, did not even look at me. I tried to make conversation with her while Mrs. Rumbold was busy eating. Apart
from the word "No", she did not respond to my questions. At last she suggested that
I would have enjoyed the dinner if I ate more and talked less.
