-背景知识-
1. Tom-tom
又称“tom-tom drum”, 是一个没有圈套的圆柱形鼓。 这个名字最初来自英印和僧伽罗。它的尺寸范围在6至20英寸（15和51厘米）之间，少数可以达到24英寸（61厘米）。
印第安人获得胜利后也会打鼓欢呼来庆祝哒，就像这样。
它也是现代乐队使用的鼓的鼻祖呢～现在乐队演奏使用的鼓都是从这个演变而来滴，鼓的种类也逐渐增多，大小不同的四类鼓在一起共同组成了现代“架子鼓”。
- 熟词生义-
1.「base」：形容词，卑鄙的。
原句：But all their other feelings were swallowed by a base delight.
例句：The base man cheated on me.
- 句子解析 -
1. They could have got up and prepared to fight, but it was forbidden by the traditions of their race to express surprise in the presence of a white person.
还记得我们之前讲的“could have+分词形式”吗？文中是他们本可以起来准备战斗，但事实上却没有，为什么呢？
印第安人这里被狡诈的海盗们偷袭，但是他们认为自己有高贵的血统，不能在白人面前表现出惊慌失措的样子(in the presence of: 在…面前)，所以开始就没动，结果错过了最佳应战时间。
2. The night’s work was not yet over, for it was not the redskins Hook had come out to destroy; they were only the bees to be driven away, so that he should get at the honey.
「It was not the redskins (who) Hook had come out to destroy」这是一个省略了连接词who的句子，主句就是It was not the redskins,后面部分都是修饰redskins的。
意思是：但是这一夜的事情并没有过去，因为(for表原因，相当于because) Hook今夜并不是为了杀印第安人，印第安人(they)不过是要被赶走的蜜蜂，而他(he指Hook)要取的是蜜(也就是peter)。
「bees」和「honey」只是一个比喻的说法，为了表明Peter才是Hook真正的目标。
3. They smiled at each other and rubbed their hands. Rapidly and silently Hook gave his orders: one man to each tree, and the others to arrange themselves in a line two yards apart.
「smiled at each other and rubbed their hands」 他们相视而笑，磨拳擦掌。
Hook快速地低声下达了指令(order)：一人守一个树洞，其余的排成一行（arrange in line），隔两码一个人。
在这里可能一些同学会误认为是“one…the other…”句型，其实不是的。
「one…the other…」指特定的俩个人或物中的“一个…另一个…”。例如：There are two boys in the room. One is reading a book and the other is watching TV.
再科普一下，1 码(yard)=0.9144米(meter)
4. The first thing Hook did / on finding himself alone / in the fast darkening night / was to walk quietly / across to Slightly’s tree, and make sure / he could fit in the tree.
这句话有一丢丢长~~拆分一下大家应该就懂了, on finding himself alone in the fast darkening night是修饰Hook的，「on」在这里是介词，表示的是“一……就……；在……的时候”的意思。
这句话的意思就是：黑暗很快降临, Hook发现只有自己一个人后，他要做的第一件事就是蹑手蹑脚地走到Slightly的树跟前，弄清楚自己是不是能从那个树洞钻进去。
5. As his eyes became used to the dim light, various objects in the home under the trees took shape, but the only thing that he was looking for was the great bed.
「be/become/get used to (doing) sth」习惯(做)某事，文中就是说Hook的眼睛逐渐习惯了黑暗。例如：I am used to remembering English words every day. 我习惯每天都记英语单词（现在也记）。
拓展：与used to do sth“过去常常做某事”区别开来，例如：I used to remenmber English words every day. 我过去每天都记英语单词（现在可能不记了）。
当（As）Hook的眼睛逐渐习惯黑暗，树下屋里的东西才开始一件一件看清楚（take shape就是“具象化，显露”的意思），但他寻找的唯一的东西就是那张大床。
6. Hook caught the sight of Peter’s medicine lying within his reach. Immediately, he knew the sleeper was in his power. In case he should be taken alive, Hook always carried a dreadful drug with him, mixed by himself of all the most deadly things that he had acquired.
「catch sight of」表示“看见”，这里是说“Hook看到Peter的药就在自己能够够得着的地方（within his reach）”，他知道Peter(the sleeper)已经在他的掌控之下(in his power)了。其中lying within his reach表示的是medicine的状态，即所处的位置。
「In case he should be taken alive」 “in case+句子”表示“以防…”，文中指Hook以防自己被活捉(be taken alive)。例如：You should bring the charger in case the battery runs low. 你应该带上充电器以防电池没电了。
后半句意思是：Hook以防自己被活捉，就一直都会带着自制的毒药,而这个毒药是他把得到(acquire)的最致命的东西混合配制而成的。

I think people just get frustrated without harsh, life can be. So they're spending their time dwelling on that frustration we calling it anger. keep their eyes shut to the wholeness of the situation.
4、世界在转动，你只是一粒尘埃，没有你地球照样在转。现实是不会按照你的意志去改变的，因为别人的意志会比你的更强。
The world is changing while you're just a stardust. The earth turns arround with or without you. Reality doesn't change according to your will.
5、你会怀疑地球是否在转动，即使你不在也照样如此，情况不能像你希望的一样，有些人的需求，有些人的信念会比你的更强烈。
The world moves you just suspect. it could no happen without you. Situations are not conduced to what you want for yourself. Someone else's needs, someone else's plate is going to be stronger than yours is.
6、生活的残酷会让人不知所措，于是有人终日沉浸在彷徨迷茫之中，不愿睁大双眼去看清形势，不愿去想是哪些细小的因素累积在一起造成了这种局面。
Keep their eyes shut to the wholeness of the situation. All those tinny things that have come together to make it, what it is.
7、请不要闭眼，机会就在下一秒出现。残酷的现实面前你应勇往直前。
Don't close your eyes, rise again after you fall, you need to get out.
8、有时候我觉得世界外有一层外壳，我们所有人都生在这层外壳之下，你能从外壳里看到外面，但是你却出不去。
Sometimes I feel like there is skin upon the world. And those of us who are born under it, can see threw it. We just can't get threw it.
9、放下负担，让它过去，这样才能继续前进。
Now I can lay it out and burn it done, put it in the rest, then I can go on.
