我挺喜欢看侦探小说的，那一步步抽丝剥茧，直到最后揭示真相的过程很烧脑，实在是引人入胜。侦探小说的英文是detective novel。

Detective还是美国警察的某一级别，全称detective inspector，通常被译为“探员”——要当上探员可不容易，他们是有经验和能力独立从事刑侦工作(detective work)的资深警员。

我们有必要研究一下detective这个词，明眼一看，这个词前面有个de-前缀，表示“去掉”之意，后面有个形容词后缀-ive，拿掉它，就剩下tect。那我们可以想象，侦探的工作应该就是“去掉tect”——
