译《小王子》：第六章 爱上日落

Oh, little prince! Bit by bit I came to understand the secrets of your sad little life. For a long time you had found your only entertainment in the quiet pleasure of looking at the sunset. I learned that new detail on the morning of the fourth day, when you said to me: "I am very fond of sunsets. Come, let us go look at a sunset now."

哈！小王子！我开始懂得从点点滴滴中感受你那惆怅的生活。在以往的悠长岁月里，安静闲适地坐看夕阳西下就是你唯一的消遣。这个新的细节，我到了第四天的早晨才有所了解，当时你对我说：“我超级喜欢看日落。走吧，我们一起去观赏夕阳吧！”

"But we must wait," I said. 

"Wait? For what?"

"For the sunset. We must wait until it is time."

At first you seemed to be very much surprised. And then you laughed to yourself. You said to me: 

"I am always thinking that I am at home!"

Just so. Everybody knows that when it is noon in the United States the sun is setting over France.

“可是我们必须等一会！”我说。

“等？还等什么？”

“等太阳下山呀！我们必须耐心等待那一刻的到来！”

起初，你还一脸惊讶的样子，随即便嘲笑起自己的糊涂。你说：

“我总以为还在自己家里呢！”

的确，众所周知的是当美国还处于正午时分，法国早已晚霞满天。

If you could try to France in one minute, you could go straight into the sunset, right from noon. Unfortunately, France is too far away for that. But on your tiny planet, my little prince, all you need do is move your chair a few steps. You can see the day end and the twilight falling whenever you like...

如果你能在一分钟内赶到法国，那就可以一下子从中午过渡到黄昏。遗憾的是，这里距离法国实在太远。但是，我的小王子呀，在你生活的那颗迷你星球上，或许只需要将椅子稍微挪动几步就能达到吧！这样，只要你喜欢，就可以随时观赏到落日余晖……

小王子与日落

"One day," you said to me, "I saw the sunset forty-four times!"

And a little later you added: "You know –one loves the sunset, when one is so sad."

"Were you so sad, then?" I asked, "on the day of the forty-four sunsets?"

But the little prince made no reply.

“有一天，”你告诉我说：“我整整看了四十四次！”

没过多久，你又说道：“你应该知道，当一个人感到悲伤的时候，就自然会爱上日落。”

“你那天非常伤心吗？”我问道：“竟然会一天就看了四十四次日落。”

小王子并没有回答我的问题。
