Why did the lamp go out?

I shaded it with my cloak to save it from the wind, that is why the lamp went out.

Why did the flower fade?

I pressed it to my heart with anxious love, that is why the flower faded.

Why did the stream dry up?

I put a dam across it to have it for my use, that is why the stream dried up.

Why did the harp-string break?

I tried to force a note that was beyond its power, that is why the harp-string broken.

译文：

灯火为何熄灭？

我用披风为它遮风，灯火因此熄灭。

花朵为何凋谢？

我怀着急切的爱将其拥在心口，花朵因此凋谢。

溪流为何枯竭？

我筑起堤坝将其拦截为我所用，溪流因此枯竭。

琴弦为何断裂？

我强行弹奏超出其强度的音节，琴弦因此断裂。
