5.23热点双语：中国下调进口汽车关税
China will cut the import duty on passenger cars in what appears to be one of its first concessions in a trade spat with the United States.
中国将削减乘用车的进口关税，这似乎是中国在中美贸易争端中做出的第一波让步之一。
China's Xinhua news service said Tuesday that the levies would be cut to 15 per cent, from the current 25 per cent, on July 1.
新华社周二表示，从7月1日起，这一税率将从目前的25%下调至15%。
It cited the State Council, China’s government. Last month at a press conference an official from China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology had said a cut in import duties would happen "as soon as possible."
新华社援引中国国务院的消息。上月，中国工业和信息化部(Ministry of Industry and Information Technology)的一名官员在新闻发布会上表示，中国将“尽快”削减进口关税。
The cut appeared to be a piece of a broader deal between Beijing and Washington to avert a trade war and comes as the two sides are nearing a deal to lift the ban on sales of US components to Chinese telecoms group ZTE.
此次减税似乎是中美两国为避免贸易战而谈判的一项更广泛交易的一部分。双方正接近达成一项交易，以解除不得向中国电信设备制造商中兴通讯(ZTE)出售美国组件的禁令。
While 15 per cent represents a reduction, they are still high by international standards, and it was unclear if they would eventually be reduced further as part of the deal. US negotiators had been seeking a reduction to the US level, where auto import duties are 2.5 per cent.
虽然15%的税率较当前水平有所降低，但以国际标准衡量，这一关税税率仍然较高，尚不清楚作为交易的一部分，该税率最终是否会进一步降低。美国谈判代表一直在要求中国把汽车进口关税降至美国水平，即2.5%。
Shares in German carmakers BMW and Volkswagen were 1.5 per cent and 0.8 per cent higher, respectively, in early trading following the announcement.
