七曜日者，曰日曜，曰月曜，曰火曜，曰水曜，曰木曜，曰金曜，曰土曜，谓之一周。每遇日曜之日，学校皆放假。

The days of the week come from the names of mythical figures.

Sunday = associated with the Sun 日曜 /にちよーひ

Monday = associated with the Moon 月曜 / げつよーひ

Tuesday = from the god Tiw, associated with Mars 火曜 / かよーひ

Wednesday = from Germanic god Odin 水曜 / すいよーひ

Thursday = from Germanic god of thunder and farming Thor 木曜 / もくよーひ

Friday = from Germanic goddess Frigga, associated with Venus 金曜 / きんよーひ

Saturday = associated with Saturn 土曜 / どよーひ
