2. 体会这个词 （进阶篇）

“-bound”作为后缀使用常常有两个意思。一个是“被包围、限制”，比如 wheelchair-bound（坐轮椅的），tradition-bound（受传统约束的）；另一个意思是“驶向”，比如 homebound，常用来表示“回家的”。今天我们主要学习它的第二个意思，我们通过一些例句掌握它的用法。    

“-bound”表示“驶向”时的用法比较单一，常常可以用来替换最常见的 go 和 be bound for。比如“travelers who are going home”或者“travelers bound for home” 就可以用更简洁的“home-bound travelers”表示：    

Homebound travelers were stranded at the airport.

在纽约的地铁中经常就可以听到 -bound。播报员会用 xx-bound 表示地铁的行驶方向，比如：    

This is a Manhattan-bound 2 local train, the next stop is 174th Street.

上面的话就表示这趟车是开往曼哈顿方向的。如果你在波士顿坐地铁，可能就会听到下面的话：    

This is an inbound/outbound train.

inbound 是驶向市内的列车，outbound 是驶出市内的列车。    

同样，我们如果想说“飞往北京的航班”就可以说 a Beijing-bound flight。比如一辆飞往北京的航班在正要起飞前被禁飞了，就可以说成：    

The Beijing-bound flight was grounded shortly before takeoff.
