The debate about whether an English learner reduces mistakes by writing tends to divide commentators into two camps. The optimistic case is that learning a foreign language enhances a writer's understanding of his mother tongue and thus improves his output in both English and Chinese. To turn his stumbling blocks into stepping stones, one needs only to write relentlessly. The pessimists argue that practice makes permanent, but not perfect. A consicous author should know where to stop.
Indeed, grammar is an average writer's largest obstacle, and semantics claims the number-two spot. Combined, they account for almost half of the potential pitfalls learners are going to run into. The penman's approach to the above-mentioned hurdles directly affects clarity and quality of his writing.
