A star student with fellowship asks,"what's the point?"
From this, our current education system focuses obsessively on helping students take the next step but doesn't provide adequate assistance in thinking about the substance of the lives toward which they are advancing.
Liberal arts institutions rarely teach it as they reprise a successful modern formula:open doors without telling what lies behind them. Sometimes too many choices are not a good thing and it might cause being restless in the midst of their property.
Colleges should self-consciously prioritize initiating students into a culture of rational reflection on how to live.
