In recent years, China’s tourism industryhas developed rapidly and the tourism industry has become an important industryfor the national economy. I find some data from National Bureau of Statisticsof China and hope to get some discoveries by processing this data.

As can be seen from the chart, the redbroken line represents the change in the number of domestic tourists, corresponding to the value of the right y-axis; the blue and yellow histogramsrepresent the changes in the number of urban resident domestic tourists and thenumber of rural resident domestic tourists, which corresponds to the values ofthe left y-axis.

In the ten years from 2007 to 2016, the number of domestic tourists is always increasing. However, the number of the urban residents who went travelling has increased a lot while the number of the rural residents has changed a little.

From the perspective of domestic tourism revenue, the domestic tourism revenue also has maintained a good growth trend in the ten years, and almost achieved a growth of 5 times.

In terms of the per capita tourism spending, though the per capita spending of urban residents and rural residents has maintained an upward trend, it is clear that there is still a certain gap between rural residents’ tourism costs and urban residents’ tourism costs. This shows that there is still a problem of unbalanced development in urban and rural areas in China.

Some corresponding institutions have also developed with the development of China's tourism industry.

An increasing number of travel agencies have been established in the ten years while the number of star hotels seems to have decreased. Maybe that’s because star hotels are relatively harder to manage and the requirements for star hotels have also become more stringent in recent years.

The rapid development of tourism in China not only attracts domestic tourists, but also appeals to foreign tourists from all over the world. A large number of foreign tourists come to China to travel and create a lot of income for China.

As can be seen, the international tourism foreign exchange income has achieved 120 US billion dollars in 2016.

The international tourism foreign exchange income can be divided into plenty of categories as shown above. Obviously, the international long-distance traffic income accounts for the largest proportion, followed by the civil aviation income. And the merchandising income also takes up a large part.

Foreign visitors who travel in China come from all over the world and their specific data can be found in the chart below. The chart is based on the 2016 data.

Perhaps because it is more convenient geographically, the number of Asian tourists was the largest. Among them, the number of South Koreans ranked first, the number of Japanese came in second, and the number of North Koreans was the least.

The number of tourists from Europe ranked second and the number of tourists from North America ranked third. And obviously, the number of tourists from Latin America was the least.

Therefore, tourism industry has not only become a major driving force for China’s economic development, but also has become an important way to export China’s image to the world. The rapid development of China's tourism industry reflects the improvement of the living standards of Chinese people and also demonstrates to the world the progress of China's national power.
