A Summer of No Importance

My yearlong plan

Fell through

My first book

Delayed many times

First it was two months

Then it was four

Now 8 months

And probably more

It was turning into

A summer of no importance

The covid pandemic

Gathered everyone

Into the same boat

Rich and poor

Together

We live or die

Never happened

Like this before

That invisible virus

Had one serious flaw

It could not recognize

‘First class’

From the floor

No time

To feel sorry

For oneself

The dead are quickly melting

Into that big ‘melting pot’

That never materialized

When more Americans were alive

I lose count

Of all those covid scenarios

That can never hurt us

And is coming back

To taunt us

Because covid can

My imagination

Is exhausted

I cannot keep up

It had become

A summer of no importance

Or so I thought

Until I started writing

All the important things

I miss

And now lost
