【Simin 的转述】
The life for children many years ago is tough than the life for children today. In the past, they had to help their parents do many things, such as doing the laundry, the dishes and house cleaning! And sometimes they even did some part-time work to help with the family. If they were naughty, they would be punished. For example, their parents would spank them or they would not be allowed to go outsides the house for days.
Therefore, the author takes the view that kids nowadays shouldn't complain about their life. On the contrary, they should be thanking their luck y stars because life is quite different! Today, parents and teachers are afraid to spank children for fear of being sued. As you can see, many children are so spoiled that it seems as if they can make their parents do anything for them!
