【单词讲解】

“给...记功”可以用award someone a merit citation或者honor someone with a merit citation，上面例句中的主语都是获得这些荣誉的人，所以使用了被动语态。此外，我们原来说过“授旗”用confer a flag to表示，其实，这里的“授予荣誉”也可以用confer a merit citation to someone表示。

Merit citation这个表达可以分开来看，merit指一个人或者集体的功绩，而citation则是对于这一功绩的官方认可（an official document or speech which praises a person for something brave or special that they have done）。
