《丑奴儿》

少年不识愁滋味，

爱上层楼；

爱上层楼，

为赋新词强说愁。

而今识尽愁滋味，

欲说还休；

却道天凉好个秋。

In my young days, I had tasted only gladness,

    But loved to mount the top floor,

And now I've tasted sorrow's flavours, bitter and sour,

I'D RATHER NOT TELL

      When I was young, to sorrow yet a stranger, I loved to go up the tallest towers, the tallest towers, to compose vapid verses simulating sorrow,

      Now that I am to sorrow fallen prey, what ails me I'd rather not tell, rather not tell, only saying: It's nice and cool and the autumn tints are mellow.
