Academic Writing Lesson2
The impact of information technology is pervasive as it is being used in virtually every sector from farming to manufacturing to services to government. Today, the main focus is on its great influence on economic activities. The introduction of IT systems may bring more product innovations, increase the quality of products and services and provide more job opportunities.
Firstly, IT spurs the innovation of products hugely by enabling the emergence of a completely new sector: the app industry. Numerous public services have become available online and through mobile phones. For example, it's so convenient to browse various products on Taobao instead of sweating in the shopping hall. When facing some small health problem, you can just consult an expert online.
Secondly, IT gives organizations greater opportunities and incentives to boost the quality of their products by enabling more information about quality to be collected and designing more customized features and services, which by definition are of higher quality because they more closely fit the wishes of consumers, such as certain personalized settings and recommendations. That is to say, all apps seem to become smarter.
Lastly, the emergence of more apps and considerate services means it can boost the economy by enabling more people to work. The IT industry itself creates jobs, on average paying 84 percent more than average jobs. Additionally, IT makes it easier for disabled people and people who cannot work full-time, but who can work part-time or from home.
In short, IT is the major driver of today’s global economy in product innovation and better service and working opportunities. We do benefit a lot from this information age.
