My data comes from Beijing Municipal Data Website. Firstly we enter the Beijing Municipal Data Website, then choose the data of the navigation bar above the site. You can see many types of public data. I chose Beijing Cultural Heritage Bureau and find this table from its data. Because it include too many data, I select a part of it. Because some of the sights and address do not have the exact English name, so I keep the name in Chinese.
The website provides many open data about Beijing. And The topic of this table is Beijing Heritage Conservation Unit. In this chart, you can see the Beijing Heritage Conservation Unit’s batch, era, address and specific latitude and longitude. Because it lacks specific data, I find the area about them from internet. It records information on national key cultural relics protection units registered by Beijing Municipal Bureau of Cultural Relics.
By making a visual chart, we can see the comparison of the data more intuitively. We can also compare different data for finding more information.
I want to find some information from the chart. Firstly, I want to compare the area of different protected artifacts. Secondly, by creating a data map, we can mark the location of the cultural relic protection unit on the map so that we can visually see its distribution. Finally, through the classification of protected cultural relics, we can analyze the differences in the protection of cultural relics in different eras and regions.
(The picture is a little blurry, you can click on the URL below to see a clear chart. )

This is an area map of some cultural relics protection units in Beijing. Because some data in the table is too large, which make the other data in the chart is not so obvious, I delete some data. In this chart, we can see the largest Heritage Conservation Unit is Forbidden City, It covers an area of 720,000 square meters. The smallest cultural relic protection unit is Juyongguan Yuntai. It’s difficult to see its data because it only has more than 400 square meters. What’s more, we can see that There is a large gap in the area of cultural relics protection units.
The area of some cultural relics protection units in BeijingThis is a picture of the area where cultural relics protection units are distributed. From this chart we can see that the cultural relic protection units are distributed in seven urban areas. Nearly half of the cultural relics protection units are concentrated in Dongcheng District. This may indicate that Dongcheng District was a relatively prosperous place in the past, the center of the city.

This is also about the area where cultural relics protection units are distributed. It adds elements of the area of the heritage conservation unit. From the chart, we can see that the area of cultural relics in Xicheng District and Dongcheng District is larger.
The era of Heritage Conservation Unit
This is a map about the era of Heritage Conservation Unit. We can see in Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty people built many famous sights like Forbidden City, Summer Palace and so on. The reason may be is the Ming and Qing Dynasties were closer and the cultural relics were better protected. Besides, it may be because the economy was more developed during the Ming and Qing Dynasties and there were more economic foundations for the construction of palaces.
