They searched for hope in the river.

他们在河流的荡漾中，追寻着希望。

They stripped off their clothes on the shore.

他们在希望的河岸边，卷起了衣袖。

They searched the banks, the mud, the tall grass and the dirt paths.

他们抵达了对岸，溅到了污泥，亲吻了茂草，却发现了另一条昏黑的死胡同。

They went back in the river, their feet touching the muddy bottom, toes sinking into earth and sea.

他们梦回大流，脚丫轻触着泥泞的河底，脚尖嵌入大地和海洋。

They went under, held their breath until stars burst behind their eyes and emerged empty handed.

他们屏住呼吸沉入了水底，等待着星星在他们的身后爆开，让希望跌落在他们空荡荡的手心。

They washed and they cried, tears and river rolling together underneath them.

他们被冲刷着，他们哭泣着。河水和泪花紧紧搂成一片，托起可怜的孩子们。

They waited for the sun to go and the moon to come and when the clouds and rain came instead they went to bed hopeless.

他们等待着旧的一天的离去，他们期盼着来自天堂的白云和甘露代替他们那张冰冷的床。
