儿时度夏

Summer Days of Childhood

儿时没有空调房，

In childhood, without air conditioning

大树底下好乘凉，

Under the big tree was a cool place to rest

放张竹席且当床。

A bamboo mat spread out to serve as a bed

烧堆艾草把蚊防，

Burning mugwort to keep mosquitoes away

手摇蒲扇身清凉，

Waving a cattail leaf fan to cool the body

数着星星入梦乡，

Counting stars until drifting into dreams

蛙叫蝉鸣奏乐章，

Frogs croaking and cicadas singing like music

一觉睡到大天光。

Sleeping soundly until the break of dawn

回忆儿时好时光

Recalling the good times of childhood

虽为苦夏也安康。

Enjoying peace and comfort in the bitter summer heat
