St. Patrick's Day

When I was in Shanghai, several years ago, I had a walk in the street, near Xintiandi. Xintiandi is a prosperous area in the city center of Shanghai. International friends often chatted in Coffee Bean, in the pubs.

I walked along the street. Then I saw a group of foreigners all dressed in green robes. And they were all wearing tall green hats on their heads. The girls had golden hair and the men had thick beards. Some musicians played instruments. They walked in a parade cheerfully in the wind.

I was surprised. The green color felt comfortable, drifting along the street.

Someone told me they were from Ireland. And today it was their festival, St. Patricks Day. On this occasion, they would have a great celebration. This is similiar to Chinese New Year.

At night, the Irish performed tap dance in Xintiandi. A guy and a girl danced cheerfully, and their legs were like spring. When children danced together, they seemed lovely. Their dance was accompanied by accordian and fiddles.
