Fire and Ice 诗歌赏析

Fire and ice is an lyric poem of nine lines,following with the rhyme scheme of abaabcbcb.The line 2, 8, 9 are imabic dimeter while the rest of the lines are imabic tetrameter. The poet want to express that extremely strong human emotions will destroy a person morally,mentally and physically.

The poet use two natural phenomena as metaphor,  desire  symbolizes fire, hatred to ice, which will bring the destruction. So the poet want us to aware of human beings' desire as well as hatred if we don't want our world fall victimto human being's destructive emotions.

The diction of this poem is simple and easy to understand and this poem is short and direct on the informational level. However, it has profound meaning in it for us to explore. The destructive emotions of human beings, whether desire or hatred, has a desctructive effect on our world and turn our world to the hell of fire or freezing ice age.
