学术英语写作／翻译：A随B的变化

在学术英语中，“A随B的变化”类似的表达非常常见，属于一种固定搭配，应该使用the variation of A with B.

例：光强随圆柱体直径变化的正弦规律。

译：The sine law of the variation of light intensity with cylinder diameter.

这种表达的通用模式是：名词 of A 介词 B（A和B也是名词），下面分三种情况介绍：

（1）该“名词”为普通的抽象名词（译法：一般是“A...B的～）

例1: 速度被定义为距离与时间之比。

译：Speed is defined as the ratio of distance to time.

例2: “log n"指的是n 以e 为底的对数。

译："log n" denotes the logarithm of n to the base e.

（2）该“名词”来自不及物动词（译法：一般仍然是“A...B的～）

例1: 重力加速度g随纬度的变化，部分原因是由于地球的自转。

译：The variation of g with latitude is due in part to the earth's rotation.

例2: 人们用椭圆来描述行星绕太阳的运行情况。

译：Ellipses are used to describe the motions of the planets around the sun.

（3）该“名词”来自及物动词（译法：一般采用“动宾”译法，即把该“名词”译成及物动词）

例1: 应避免使人体接触有潜在毒性的物质。

译：Exposure of the body to potentially toxic substances should be avoided.

例2: 把铝从矿石中提炼出来在当时是非常困难的。

译：The separation of aluminum from its ore was very difficult at that time.
