Not catching what you hear even

The above example motivates me to write the post. I guarantee that you know every word in the sentence. But most of you can not catch what you hear when the sentence is read as a whole. The magic basically lies in that, most of the syllables are shortcut connected (a.k.a, liaison) or even omitted.  This makes it difficult for you to separate the words from a "smoothed" sentence spoken. So it is important for you to understand the common rules in oral English that regulate these liaisons and omits.
