Bow

In the first class, Jerry asked us to make bow to the space, every time when we enter the class room or as we go through the “altar”(in the middle of the room). What's more we should do the same when we get out of the classroom. To be frank, I felt very weird, as I rarely bow to anybody or anything at all. I think that's the symbol of my attitude of against the world. But I did it anyway.

On the second day, I seemed "understand" that request a little. Due to my position,  I might have to bow 4 times, if I want to go in and out of the room. Which is too much for anyone, who is as lazy as I am. So, I chose to sit down and remained where I was, once I went into the room, saving me from the trouble.

Jerry and Urikie were very serious about the bow. Once as the class was over, some guys were trying to get out the room by putting on their shoes outside the entrance, While some other guys were trying bow to the room before getting out of the room. So, it was crowded there. I tried to have a clever move by bowing to the room before I got near to the entrance. Jerry stopped me and told me to bow again before going out the room. Awkwardly, I had to do it again.

One day, Jerry lead us to bow after class. He said: "Keep your head up, connect to the space, connect to the energy of the sky; Feel the unconditional support of the earth; Gather……And give, give all the energy back to the world, feel the emptiness. Then awake……" Only by then, did I find that bow can be so meaningful for me. It means the connection between me and the world. It represents my openness, receiving and giving to the world. So, I took bow as a very serious practice from then on——gather, give, and awake.

A month later, when my partner and I finished a tough and fruitful workshop with many executives , we bowed to them and to the room to show our respect and thankfulness. Yes, we meant it, seriously.
